Frequently Asked Questions

What does Christmas Connection do?

Christmas Connection is a seasonal effort to collect food, clothing and gifts for some of the Big Bend's neediest families. It relies almost exclusively on the generosity of donors and the hard work of a small army of volunteers to collect, sort and distribute goods by Christmas.

What do families receive?

Each family or individual fills out a personalized wish list. They list three critical household needs, ranging from towels to diapers to car repairs. Also, each family member may request one gift (bike, doll, CD player, etc.) as well as any clothing they need (in specific sizes). All families receive food for their holiday table as well as personal hygiene products and cleaning supplies for their pantry.

How are families chosen?

The individuals and families who receive help through the Christmas Connection are recommended by social workers at a variety of social service agencies in town. The recipients are varied in age, religion, and race: their only commonality a need that has been noticed.

It could be a child wearing the same clothes to school each day. A family struggling to pay its bills under the weight of medical woes, disability or sudden unemployment. A senior citizen trying to stay warm as she spends money on prescriptions instead of heat. If the person or family seeks help from a social service agency or their needs are noted by one the social worker can recommend them to the Christmas Connection.
